Turn a Job Title into Three Information Questions

Start with the information you actually have

A title can suggest a whole working day before its duties are known. This ten-minute practice turns that picture into three information questions. It works without cards and requires neither an application nor a commitment.

In a fictional example, Nell hears about a community-program role. She imagines planning workshops and having predictable afternoons. Her actual source is a friend's brief report, not a current description or an offer. She writes those limits before comparing the role with her present schedule.

Name the object and source

Write whether this is a field to explore, a reported opening, a description received, or a concrete arrangement with terms. A name alone does not establish availability. If the source is secondhand, keep that label. Do not make the imagined day factual because it seems realistic.

Nell's current task is finding out whether a current description exists. She is not choosing between her present work and employment already offered elsewhere.

Separate hopes from missing conditions

In one column, name what attracts you. In another, place information actually supplied. Leave a third for gaps. Nell wants workshop participation and clearer afternoons; neither condition has been confirmed. Her interest remains legitimate without filling the information column.

Choose three gaps with a purpose now: actual responsibilities, required participation periods, and a suitable source for current material. Avoid questions demanding a promise of satisfaction or a report of private recruiter feelings.

Use an image only for your expectation

An optional card may suggest a word such as teaching. Treat it as your association, then check whether teaching appeared in the real information. It cannot confirm the duties. Without cards, compare your imagined day with the available source directly.

Close with one available action

Nell can prepare a suitable request for a description or retain the gap if no appropriate contact route exists. A saved draft is not sent, and a request is not an answer. Stop when the questions are clear rather than repeatedly draw for a forecast.

The book's first two complete chapters are free and teach stages and available options. Its later inquiry chapters expand information checks. A useful career reflection can clarify what needs investigating without deciding an entire future from one attractive label.
